Your Monthly Menopause Round Up-July

Updated: Aug 14

Welcome to July's Menopause Unmasked Round Up!

In this month’s Menopause Unmasked update from Bournemouth, we cover major changes to cervical screening in England, and look at the power of empowerment empower people to seek help earlier in their menopause journey.

Menopause News (whilst not strictly menopause this is important!)

Big changes are coming to cervical screening in England:

New Timelines for Testing

From July 2025, people aged 25–49 who test HPV-negative will now be screened every 5 years instead of 3. This brings them in line with the 50–64 age group, where the 5-year interval is already used. Why? Because if you’re HPV-negative, your risk of developing cervical cancer is very low for the next 10 years.

🏠 Home-Testing on the Way 🏠

A new self-sampling home smear test kit will soon be offered to those who haven’t attended regular screenings. It’s discreet, easy to use, and can be posted back via Royal Mail.

Only 68.8% of eligible people are up to date with their cervical screening. That means over 5 million are overdue; putting them at unnecessary risk. Cervical screening saves around 5,000 lives every year in England alone.

REMEMBER: Even after menopause, you still need to go for regular cervical screening if you're eligible.

And if you experience any bleeding after menopause, even once, please speak to your GP. It’s not something to ignore

What We’re Up To

Last month, I was asked to be a guest speaker by Caroline Coombs. We talked hormones, movement, collagen supplements and stubborn fat in menopause. It was a really informative and fun evening and I am very much looking forward to working with Caroline again in the future.

I have signed up and completed more learning on menopause, this time with the British Menopause Society.

I am constantly looking for more ways to learn and explore menopause.

Talking to your GP about menopause or perimenopause can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

I’ve created a free support guide to help you prepare with confidence. From symptom tracking to knowing what questions to ask, this tool walks you through exactly what to expect. You can feel informed, empowered, and ready to speak up.

Whether you're just starting to notice changes or already mid-journey, this guide is for you.

You deserve to be heard and supported.

At home, we bought a Cavapoo puppy. Needless to say not much else has happened!

UPCOMING EVENTS

I’m thrilled to be co-speaking at another Menopause Wellness Evening, this time at the welcoming Baccello’s in Christchurch on Tuesday 9th July.

I’ll be sharing insights as a midwife and menopause coach, helping you understand:

  • What menopause and perimenopause really are

  • Why being informed is your first step to feeling in control again

Whether you're unsure what’s happening with your body or just want to feel more like yourself again, I’ll guide you through what’s normal, what’s not, and what support is available.

You’ll also hear from an amazing panel of local experts:

Caroline Coombs, Good as New Body: Health and Fitness Coach

Kyla Rogers, Healtherlea Clinic: Beautician and Holistic Therapist

Samantha Tarr, Collagen and antioxidant expert

It’s a relaxed, friendly evening; come with questions, leave with answers.

I’ll be speaking at The Arts Centre in New Milton on Wednesday September 10th with a talk titled “Introduction to Menopause.” I’ll be sharing practical advice and empowering insights to help you navigate perimenopause with clarity and confidence.

Quick Tip!

Let’s Talk About Seeking Help

This month, I want to talk about something that comes up time and time again in my sessions and workshops:

Why is it so hard to ask for help?

We tell ourselves we’re too busy. That others have it worse. That we should just “get on with it.” But menopause, like any major transition, isn’t something you have to figure out on your own. And you shouldn’t have to just cope.

You deserve more than that.

You deserve support, understanding, and tools that actually help.

You deserve to feel empowered in your body, not confused or dismissed.

Too often, we wait until things feel unbearable before reaching out, but support isn’t only for when you’re at breaking point. Asking for help early can change everything. It can be the difference between just surviving and truly thriving through this phase of life.

In fact, asking for help is often the very thing that unlocks change.

Whether it's finally speaking to your GP, joining a workshop, or booking a one-to-one session with me, choosing to reach out is not a weakness. It’s one of the strongest things you can do for your health, your wellbeing, and your future self.

New to this and not sure where to start?

That’s exactly why I created my Menopause Clarity Session. One-hour just for you, designed to help you feel heard, understood, and clear about your next steps.

Real Story:

From Overwhelmed to Empowered

Sometimes, just starting the conversation makes all the difference.

One person recently messaged me:

“Hi Katie, I need a clarity hour but I am sure I need more than that. I’m at the point of going to the GP, but I’m also worried I’ll just be another number. I feel in limbo and don’t know what to do next to get help...”

She booked a Clarity Hour.

We talked through what was happening and why. I explained how her body was changing, helped her identify her top concerns, and together we made a plan. Most importantly, she left feeling empowered and ready to advocate for herself.

The very next day, she messaged me again:

“Thank you so much for last night- you made things a lot clearer, and I’m already feeling better for that.”

That’s the power of asking for help.
